Restockers competed for lighter cattle at the Yea store sale on Friday, where mainly north-east buyers stepped up.

Weaner steer prices drove on to 620 cents a kilogram, according to agents, with buyers looking for volume, breeding and frame, rather than weight.

Across the 1800 head yarding, cattle of all classes showed the effects of wintry conditions.

Despite this, Nutrien Yea livestock agent Tyson Bush felt prices were on the up.
