Well-known Victorian stud beef identity Don Lawson has died.
Mr Lawson, the founder of one of the nation’s most successful Angus studs, a pioneer of performance recording in beef cattle and advocate for agricultural education, passed away on Saturday, his family said. He was 85.
He was born Donald Bruce Lawson in Melbourne in 1939 into a family with a rich history. His grandfather, Sir Harry Lawson, was a politician from Castlemaine who served as Victoria’s first two-term Premier between 1918 and 1924 before moving to the federal Senate.
Mr Lawson’s father, also Don, was a gynaecologist, and the Lawson family grew up in suburban Melbourne, around the corner from Caulfield Grammar School.
