Yesterday’s hay convoy was met with an overwhelming show of support, and we want to sincerely thank everyone who turned out in the heat, helped, waved, cheered and made it so special.
From the large crowd at the High Street/North Street intersection, proudly waving Aussie flags, to the strong gathering at the Yea Saleyards, the encouragement from the community was impossible to miss.
At one point, a truck driver paused to take it all in, clearly moved by the flag-waving public and the turnout along the route. It was a quiet reminder of just how much that show of support meant to those behind the wheel.
The truck drivers were also very appreciative of the support provided along the way:
Seymour Police, who escorted the convoy from the Broadford Weighbridge into Seymour and along the designated truck route
Limestone FCV (Forward Control Vehicle), leading the convoy safely from Seymour to the Yea Saleyards.
In total, 54 trucks arrived at the Yea Saleyards, ready to deliver fodder to farmers in the Yea district impacted by fires. The hay truckies then enjoyed a well-deserved meal and a drink or two at the Country Club Hotel.
A huge thank you to Whanregarwen Pastoral Company and Beer Auto Group for generously providing meals in recognition of the selfless work done by the ‘Hay Runners.’
This was community at its very best. Supporters, organisers, volunteers, police and drivers — thank you all.
