Yea & District Memorial Hospital, with Yea Rotary, has secured a $20,000 Elders Community Giving grant to create a dedicated health clinic space at the saleyards.

For the past couple of years, health checks have been run out of the cafeteria or even a borrowed council library bus. Now, with a relocatable building on the way, our rural community will have proper access to onsite care.

Rotary is also backing YDMH’s mouth mapping program – an innovative way to detect oral cancer early.

Dr Jennifer Keast explains:

“We have skin inside our mouths just like on the outside of our bodies – and it can develop cancer too. Because we don’t tend to look inside our mouths, these lesions are often picked up late, when the outcome is poor. Mouth mapping helps us find them early.”

This partnership is a big step forward in supporting the health and wellbeing of our farming community.
