Vendors who hedged their bets at an earlier Yea weaner sale have seen the risk pay off, as agents describe today's January weaner sale as "consistent".

Yea Nutrien branch manager Tyson Bush said the January weaner sale today was on-par with the saleyards' November weaner sale, and met agents' expectations.

"The heavy end of the steer prices were $3.10-$3.50 a kilogram, which is about what we've been quoting people," he said.

"I thought there might be a bit more of a lift in the secondary run of cattle, but I think the best way to describe today is consistent."
